Solar system's edge surprises astronomers 1  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 05:52

The heliosphere shields the solar system from 90 percent of energetic cosmic rays — high-speed charged particles that would otherwise bombard the planets and harm life.Office 2007 key is available here.

Understanding more about the heliosphere and its ability to filter out galactic cosmic rays could be critical for assessing the safety of human space travel, Schwadron notes. The new findings may also help predict how the heliosphere varies in shape and size as it moves through the galaxy and encounters regions of space having different densities and magnetic field strengths.Office 2010 download is available now!

The ribbon found by IBEX, recorded at energies between 200 and 6,000 electron volts, is brightest at about 1,000 electron volts and lies between about 100 and 125 astronomical units from the sun, Many people like buy Office 2010 Home.

notes David McComas of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. One astronomical unit is the distance between the Earth and the sun. The atoms recorded by IBEX, which orbits Earth, Microsoft Office is so great!

took a year or two, depending on their energies, to reach the craft from the outer edge of the heliosphere.By using Office 2010 Professional, you can save your money and time.

The IBEX ribbon runs perpendicular to the direction of the galaxy’s magnetic field at the interstellar boundary, an indication that the field has a much stronger than expected influence on the sun’s environs, report Schwadron and his colleagues.Office 2007 is so powerful.

One possibility is that pressure from this external magnetic field has forced particles just inside the heliosphere to bunch together into a ribbon.Office Professional 2010 is great!

“First and foremost, this is a big surprise because we thought we know a lot about this region, the edge of the heliosphere,” McComas says. Microsoft Office 2007 is welcomed by the whole world.

The Voyager 1 craft in 2004 (SN: 1/3/04, p. 7) and the Voyager 2 craft in 2007 (SN: 8/2/08, p. 7) journeyed to opposite sides of this fringe region of the solar system and crossed the termination shock — where the solar wind encounters a shock that precedes the influx of particles drifting into the solar system from interstellar space. Both craft recorded the density of particles and the strength of the magnetic fields.Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

Both Voyager 1 and 2 missed seeing the newly found ribbon because it spans a region between their flight paths, says McComas. No existing model can explain the ribbon, he adds, which was found independently by two instruments on IBEX.Office 2010 is powerful!

Researchers had assumed that the pressure from the solar wind would compress in the heliosphere in the direction that the solar system was moving through space and create a cometlike tail in the opposite direction, notes Krimigis. “Now we know that’s wrong,” he says.Office 2010 key is for you now!

Solar system's edge surprises astronomers  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 05:52

The edge of the solar system is tied up with a ribbon, astronomers have discovered. The first global map of the solar system reveals that its edge is nothing like what had been predicted. Office 2010 –save your time and save your money.

Neutral atoms, which are the only way to image the fringes of the solar system, are densely packed into a narrow ribbon rather than evenly distributed.Microsoft Office is so great!

“Our maps show structure and energy spectra that are completely different from what any model has predicted,” says study coauthor Herbert Funsten of the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. The invention of Microsoft Office 2010 is a big change of the world.

NASA’s Interstellar Boundary Explorer satellite, or IBEX, discovered the narrow ribbon, which completes nearly a full circle across the sky. The density of neutral atoms in the band is two to three times that in adjacent regions.Office 2007 makes life great!

These and related findings, reported in six papers posted online October 15 in Science, will not only send theorists back to the drawing board, researchers say, but may ultimately provide new insight on the interaction between the heliosphere — the vast bubble in which the solar system resides — and surrounding space.Microsoft Office 2007 is welcomed by the whole world.

The bubble is inflated by solar wind, the high-speed stream of charged particles blowing out from the sun to the solar system’s very edge. For 48 years, researchers have assumed that the solar wind sculpted the structure at the heliosphere’s boundary with interstellar space, Microsoft word is so good!

says Tom Krimigis of Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md.. But the newly found ribbon’s orientation suggests that the galaxy’s magnetic field, just outside the heliosphere, seems to be the chief organizer of structure in this region, says theorist Nathan Schwadron of Boston University, a lead author of one of the studies.Office 2007 download is helpful!

It’s not known whether the ribbon lasts for just a few years or is a permanent feature.Office Professional 2007 is many people’s favorite.

Equally puzzling are observations of the same boundary region with an instrument on the Cassini spacecraft, which recorded the density of atoms at higher energies, above 6,000 electron volts. Choose Office 2007 Professional is the most lucky thing in the world.

From its vantage point at Saturn, Windows 7 is my love!

Cassini sees a belt rather than a ribbonlike structure, a team led by Krimigis also reports in Science. The belt is substantially broader than the ribbon seen by IBEX but is in the same general area.Microsoft company invent the Office 2007 home for many people.

Getting to the core of H1N1 flu deaths1  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 05:52

In the study done in Mexico, scientists examined the records of 58 critically ill H1N1 patients who had a median age of 44 years, finding a fatality rate of 41 percent.

The vast majority of patients in the studies in Canada and Mexico received mechanical ventilation, Office 2007 key is very convenient!

which typically lasted 10 to 12 days. But the respiratory crash occurred too rapidly in some patients for ventilation to help. In Mexico, for example, four patients died before healthcare workers could get them into an intensive care unit. In Australia and New Zealand, doctors used a treatment called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, in which blood is extracted from each patient and passed through a machine that adds oxygen. The blood is then returned to the patient.Office 2007 download is on sale now!

Many patients in all three regions were also given the flu medication oseltamivir phosphate (Tamiflu), with apparent benefit. In the Mexican analysis, critically ill patients who survived were seven times more likely to have received the drug than those who died.Office 2007 Professional can give people so much convenience.

All three groups of critically ill patients included very few people over the age of 60 and few young children. The numbers support a widespread hypothesis that older people carry some residual immunity against H1N1 flu, Fowler says. The new data don't explain why very young children were underrepresented in these critically ill groups.Office 2007 home can make life more better and easier.

On the other hand, the data fail to explain why people in the prime of life would be most susceptible to the lethal effects of H1N1, a trend eerily reminiscent of the 1918 flu pandemic, which was also caused by an H1N1 strain. MS Office 2007 is the best invention in the world.

But the studies do provide much-needed empirical knowledge about the H1N1 flu, physicians Douglas White and Derek Angus of the University of Pittsburgh note in an editorial also released by JAMA.  “It is remarkable to have any data so early in the course of the influenza pandemic, Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

let alone the systematically collected data present in these reports,” they observe. “These studies provide important signals about what clinicians and hospitals may confront in the coming months.” Windows 7 and Windows 7 Professional make life wonderful!

Fowler adds: “These papers teach us that in the subset of patients with critical illness due to H1N1, the patients can deteriorate very quickly,” he says. “But with early recognition of the disease, prompt treatment and capacity for aggressive life-support and rescue therapies for oxygenation failure, mortality can be limited.Office 2010 is powerful!

That may seem like a lot of work to get from a can of soda to a taste — but the science of the senses is anything but simple. Getting to the core of H1N1 flu deaths  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 05:52

Lung inflammation and respiratory failure are largely responsible for the fatal cases of H1N1 (swine) flu seen so far, three new studies show. The findings also confirm observations that the influenza hits young adults the hardest but can be fought off in many cases with the use of antiviral flu drugs and a mechanical ventilator to aid breathing.Office 2010 is powerful!

The new studies offer the first large-scale analyses of how the H1N1 flu causes life-threatening illness. All three reports find a consistent pattern of oxygen deprivation in the blood of critically ill patients, a dangerous condition that in the worst-case scenario leads to shock, organ failure and death, the researchers report online October 12 in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The studies were conducted between early March and late August in Canada, Mexico and Australia and New Zealand.Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

“The data suggests it starts as a diffuse viral pneumonia,” says physician Anand Kumar of the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, who coauthored the Canadian study. By the time a person becomes critically ill, he says, it’s no longer clear whether it’s still pneumonia or has developed into a more severe respiratory distress syndrome.Microsoft word is so great!

In such severely ill patients, H1N1 causes massive inflammation in the lungs, which leads to fluid build-up in airways and lung tissues and even bleeding in lung tissues, says physician and epidemiologist Robert Fowler of the University of Toronto, who coauthored the studies in Canada and Mexico. These changes hamper the transfer of oxygen from inhaled air to the blood stream. Office 2007 makes life great!

“Most patients are still able to take breaths, but these breaths are ineffective,” he says. Blood pressure can crash, disrupting circulation. While oxygen deprivation can cause widespread damage, “the lungs are the organs most visibly affected,” Fowler says. Many people like Microsoft Office.

In the largest of the three studies, Fowler and a team of scientists in Canada monitored the course of 168 patients deemed critically ill with H1N1 flu. Office 2007 Professional is very good!

FOR KIDS: The taste of bubbles  posté le vendredi 13 août 2010 05:51

What does fizz taste like? In bubbly beverages like soda or champagne, tiny bubbles give the drink a lift — and have a distinct taste. Scientists have long wondered how we taste these bubbles. In a new study on mice, scientists have connected that fizzy-taste sensation to the ability to taste sourness.Office 2010 download is available now!

Scientists previously thought the taste of bubbles comes from the bubbles bursting on the tongue — but that idea may have to change, says Charles Zuker. A neuroscientist, Office 2007 key is available here.

or a scientist who studies the brain and nervous system, Zuker is now at Columbia University in New York. He and his team of researchers studied the nervous systems of mice to understand how the tongue tastes carbon dioxide, which is the gas that makes up the bubbles.By using Office 2010 Professional, you can save your money and time.

In the experiment, five different groups of mice were genetically engineered to be missing one taste sensation. (“Genetically engineered” means the researchers were able to turn off the switches for certain tastes by altering the responsible genes.) Microsoft Office is so great!

The mice in one group were bred so that they could not taste sweet. In another group, the mice could not taste sour. In the other three groups, the mice could not taste umami, or salty or bitter. Many people like buy Office 2010 Home.

When the scientists gave carbon dioxide gas to the mice, the nervous systems of the rodents in four groups responded to carbon dioxide. But for mice that could not taste sour, their nervous systems did not show any sign of tasting carbon dioxide.Microsoft Office 2010 is the best software in the world.

This tipped off the researchers to the connection between sourness and bubbles. When the scientists turned off the sour taste in the mice genes, they also turned off the ability to taste carbon dioxide.Office Professional 2010 is great!

The scientists then zoomed in on the sour taste. Animals like mice or human beings are able to detect different tastes by using taste buds, located near the surface of the tongue. Office 2007 is so powerful.

A taste bud is a group of 50 to 150 cells called taste receptors. (Under a microscope, this bundle of cells looks a little like a big bunch of bananas.) The tips of the taste receptor cells pick up tastes in the mouth, and then send that information to the brain.Office 2010 is powerful!

When they studied the cells that detect sourness, Zuker and his colleagues found a protein, Microsoft Office 2007 is welcomed by the whole world.

attached to the sour-sensing cells, that is crucial to the process of tasting carbon dioxide. When carbon dioxide comes into contact with this protein, the protein knocks off particles called protons. These protons, in turn, stimulate the sour cells.Office 2010 key is for you now!
